A Legacy of Great Sandwiches
Leeās Deli has been a part of Racine since 1971, but the story of this little building goes back even further. Before it became the cityās favorite sandwich shop, it was home to small grocery stores and delis, all family-owned. In 1961, Dan and Audrey Bonnar took over, running it as Bonnarās Sausage Shop and later Bonnarās Delicatessen. They lived in the back of the building while serving the community in the front.
The Start of Something Special
In 1971, Leroy (Lee) Neu purchased the shop, and Leeās Deli was born. He introduced the submarine sandwich to Racine, creating the menu that locals have loved for decades. These werenāt just any sandwichesāeach one was packed with fresh ingredients and made with care. In 1986, three Park High School friends, John Henes, Jim Dobbs, and Steve Hurley, took over, keeping Leeās tradition alive.
